THE Buxton Progress Association has wrapped up its very successful Buxton Memorial Hall Maintenance Appeal and has expressed gratitude to the Buxton and wider Triangle community for the support given to the appeal. With a final contribution from the Buxton 3711 Community Fund and a successful grant application to Murrindindi Shire Council, the appeal has topped out, with a total of $12,402.25 raised. The appeal was kicked off with a very generous contribution of $5000 from the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank followed by a shout-out to the local community to contribute a further $7000. The initial scope of works was to paint the outside of the hall. The hall was extensively renovated in 2010 and while the inside has stood the test of time, the outside painted surfaces definitely needed attention. This was confirmed by two local painting contractors after some initial work was done to repair damage to the windowsills. To this end, an ambitious target of $12,000 was set for the appeal. With the painting costing less than expected, other works were added to the project. This included installation of an additional garden tap for the new gardens next to the new path between the hall and new rear parking area, and repainting the linemarking in the front parking area including adding a disabled parking space. A late addition to the project was the installation of a letterbox at the hall, which was constructed and installed by the team at the Marysville Men’s Shed. To recognise the conclusion of the appeal a Thank You sticker has been added to the display board outside the hall to indicate the fund raising is complete. BPA was very fortunate to be supported by Professionals Murrindindi in Marysville, who kindly arranged and donated the thermometer noticeboard. The appeal was helped by the Marysville and District Lions Club and the Marysville Market. Both made individual contributions of $1000. A further $1000 was provided through Murrindindi Shire Council's Quick Response Grant scheme. To round out the fundraising efforts, an amount of $400 was contributed by the Buxton 3711 Community Fund, which receives revenue from the local CDS Container donation point at the Buxton Fire Station. However, the biggest thanks goes to all who made individual contributions, some big and some small, which came to $3902.25 overall. Individual thank you letters have been sent to those donors. The total cost of the works was just over the amount raised. The success of the appeal is an indication of strong community spirit which exists in the Triangle.
