HOLMESGLEN’S Certificate One Work Education Group (CWE) set up a pop-up stall outside FoodWorks in Alexandra on Tuesday, September 8. The aim of the stall was to help the students to build capacity and capability, as well as work skills which help the participants to become work ready. Bec, education manager at Holmesglen in Chadstone commented that the school is always grateful to the community for their support as it helps the students to develop their confidence. While the retail WEG group was busy in Alexandra, the Hospitality and Horticulture WEG groups were busy back at Holmesglen at Eildon during the three-day camp. The Hospitality group was involved in taking orders and making coffees for the executive group meeting at the site, and the Horticulture group were growing seedling and doing some weeding around the grounds. The students at the stall in Alexandra were selling a variety of items including jam drops and protein balls made by the Hospitality group, seedlings grown by the Horticulture group, and clothing and DVD donated by the community. The funds raised will go towards replenishing supplies or excursions for the students. The students are involved in the decision-making regarding the spending. Kerrie, mentor teacher with the CWE, said that the community involvement has been fantastic and added a shout out to the local community. She said that the students have received many tips and the community has been very generous. The annual stall has been running in Alexandra for at least 10 years.
