JORDYN Princi has been elected unopposed as the Kinglake Ward councillor for Murrindindi Shire Council, after the close of candidate nominations. The by-election followed the resignation of Cr Jodie Adams. Jordyn was asked in an interview about her decision to stand for council. She responded, “I've always had a love for community. “I'm very heavily involved in my local community. “I had people around me who suggested that it might be something of interest. “I have had lots of dealings with the council over the last two years, working with the community planning group. “It really seemed like an opportunity to be able to make changes and speak up for our local community in a way that deserves to be heard. “I'm very excited to be able to get that opportunity,” she said. She was also asked about some of the key issues which she would like to see dealt with in Kinglake. Jordyn said, “First and foremost is community collaboration. “I want to strengthen the connection between residents, community groups, businesses, clubs and councils. “I think from that there will be so many more opportunities for them to share their ideas and work together. “We have so much power as a community when we come together and so much strength to achieve the things that need to be achieved. “There are limitations on what council can do and financially there's always limits on what can be provided, but it's amazing what can be done when a community comes together to get an initiative complete or to bring something to the community. “I think there's a lot there that hasn't been tapped into previously. “I want to bring a lot of people together to get things done,” she said. She is looking to focus on roads and local infrastructure, and is keen to progress the Community Action Plan 2025-2028, including accessibility for everyone. Jordyn’s last job working for Braille Tactile Signs Australia which she said gave her a good insight into the lack of accessibility in the world that we live in. She is also looking to achieve greater community connectedness, including better ways to keep in touch and planning for future generations. When asked about her background, she said, “I'm a wife. I've been with my husband for 15 or so years and have been married coming on five years. “I've got a beautiful two-year-old daughter, and keeping up with her every day is just crazy. “This is my first jump back into the workforce after going on maternity leave and it's a bit of a change, but I think it's a good step into something that I'm so passionate about and love doing, filling your cup, so to say. “I have a background in family farms, growing up with people who work hard and people who love the outdoors and adventure. “I'm a bit creative, so I build websites and things in my free time and help out with social media accounts” she said. Her candidate website is very impressive and she commented, “I think it helps collating all of the information in the one place, which has been good for some people to figure out who I am and what I might bring.” She’s been delighted by the comments from other councillors on social media since the announcement, and added, “I've got a good relationship with Damien and we had the public announcement with the VEC this morning at the Kinglake Library, so I got to have a chat with the CEO and meet all of the people who are going to be around me and helping me catch up coming in midterm.” Jordyn is very keen to get started in her new role and said, “The local community has already been very vocal on my social media posts about what they need done in the community, so next Wednesday (4 November) I get sworn in and can start working.”
