AT the council meeting last week, Mayor Damien Gallkagher took the opportunity to acknowledge departing shire employee Michael Chesworth, who he called “a guardian of the Murrindindi spirit.” Mayor Gallagher stated that council “notes with deep appreciation, the distinguished service of Michael Chesworth and acknowledges the care, attention, and professionalism he has dedicated to his role and to the Murrindindi Shire community over 30 years. “Over the past 30 years, the world has changed dramatically. Technologically, economically, environmentally, and socially, our communities have adapted to new challenges and opportunities. Through those many changes, Michael Chesworth has been there, supporting Murrindindi with unwavering commitment and purpose. “Michael's passion for helping communities realise their aspirations has demonstrated, time and again, that local government can turn vision into reality. With the community at the heart of decision making, driving and motivating our actions, challenges can be faced with confidence, and obstacles overcome. “As Michael embarks on his next chapter, we know he leaves behind not only a remarkable professional legacy but also many friendships and fond memories. His investment in those relationships has broken down organisation and inter-agency silos creating partnerships that have delivered lasting benefits for our communities. “Michael has always fiercely defended the principles of professionalism, integrity of public administration, and the humble willingness to help others. The measure of the person we celebrate is the respect he enjoys of those across the table, across the street, and across the sector. “Michael has been my ambassador for quite leadership. He leads by example rather than instruction. He listens more than he speaks. He supports others to succeed. His influence has never been measured by the volume of his voice, rather he turns up the humility and he focuses on building trust. Michael Chesworth is Murrindindi. “A grateful community wishes you and Kaylie every joy, every success, every happiness. You leave with our admiration, our gratitude, and our very best wishes.” Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish also spoke about Mr Chesworth in parliament, saying, “Michael Chesworth is retiring from the Murrindindi Shire after 30 years. Currently the director of people and corporate performance, Michael has had many roles and has always been relied on to fill gaps. "You certainly know about it when you help your communities recover from a disaster like Black Saturday. Michael is capable, reliable, hardworking and incredibly decent. I trust his retirement will see his horsemanship skills develop and flourish.”
