FINALLY, a week of fine, warm settled weather, and with the Alexandra Golf Club course continuing to improve, the scene was set for some good golf. There were only nine players for last Tuesday’s competition, and the scores really didn’t reflect the improvement in the conditions, with your roving reporter taking a very unexpected win with 31 points. Brad Newton was second with 30, and third spot went to Leo Dynes on 27. John Greatorex took the only nearest the pin to be claimed, which was on seven, and made the most of it with a good putt for the birdie. He also got a voucher in the rundown, along with Perrin Gooding. Given the fine weather, it seems a little odd to report that there was no ladies competition played last Wednesday, although with Ruth Worland away representing the Dalhousie District at Country Week, and a couple of the other stalwarts out of town, it was left to Sandra Morris and Sue Greatorex to head out for a social nine holes in the sunshine. Last Saturday’s Stableford round, sponsored by Alexandra Bricklayers, was the season opener, and the now-traditional Captain’s versus President’s battle saw the 22 players allocated to one or the other team. In the end, it was the President’s lot, led by VP James Kidd, who took the bragging rights for this year. The individual winner was Dan Burns, who scored 36 points, with Ben Jack and Simon Rouget in second and third respectively on 33. Fourth went to Shane McGorlick with 32, just edging out a visitor from South Australia, Tom Bissett, on a countback. All five of the Par threes yielded to the onslaught, with nearest the pins going to Brad Kidd on two, Luke Heard on five, Burnsie on seven, Jarrod Williamson on 12 and Jimmy the Kidd on 18. To round out the day, the two raffle winners were Corey Jack and Tom Bissett. As mentioned above, Ruth Worland was a member of the Dalhousie Women’s team, which took third place with two strong wins, and Luke Heard was a part of the Men’s team, which was undefeated over the four rounds played. Congratulations to both Luke and Ruth.
