PLAYING conditions were perfect at Marysville Golf Club last Saturday when all the golfers played a stableford round. A number of men had qualified for the final of the Barton Cup which was the main event of the day. The winner of the cup was Keith Atwell (15) with 36 points and members congratulated Keith on his victory. The men’s daily winner was Brett Mansfield (14) with an excellent 40 points and his round also included a nearest the pin on the fourth and eighth holes. The ladies played a stableford round and Heather Jenkins (22) with 39 points won the competition followed by Lesley Rundle (39) with 37 points. Paul Martin had the nearest the pin on the 11th hole and Steve Coker was closest on the ninth and also won the Golden Shot. The competition also included the Captain’s Trophies for the best scores of the day and the trophies went to Brett and Heather. Next Saturday all golfers will play a stroke round, and the ladies will play the final of the Barton Shield. The qualifiers are Sabrina Stow, Gail Leigh, Lesley Rundle, Heather Jenkins, Beverley Bellman and Fiona Wright. Members are asked to please note that due to the Standpipe Cup being played at Mansfield the October monthly medal will be held on Saturday October 10. Last Thursday after a winter break the ladies’ Dalhousie events began with the Avenel Tournament. Many thanks to Heather Jenkins, Margaret Blair and Beverley Bellman for playing at Avenel and well played Margaret and Heather for each winning a nearest the pin and a Dalhousie Player of the Year point for Heather. The next event is at Kilmore on September 24. Prior to play on Saturday the club AGM was held. After many years of loyal and dedicated work Steve Coker stood down as President and was thanked profusely for his enormous contribution to the club and his liaison with the local community and sponsors. Travers Stow will remain as interim Treasurer until December and Peter Lilley will also remain a committee member until then. Brett Mansfield and David Douthwaite will join as ordinary members, Lizzy Matthews will be the Secretary and Paul Martin and Richy Clark will stay on the committee with Paul as Vice President. Former committee members Amanda Rattay and Glen Rattay were thanked for their contribution to the management of the club. The club members have for many weeks, as a fundraiser, been selling raffle tickets and the draw for the four prizes was held after the AGM last Saturday. This scribe and Heather Jenkins were asked by Steve Coker to draw the four winning tickets out of the ticket-filled bucket. Unbelievably, the first ticket I drew out was my own and I was therefore the winner of the $1000 first prize. It took quite some time to get over the shock and to deal with the friendly banter and creative allegations from my fellow members. Heather then drew the second prize of a dozen bottles of wine which was won by April Spearing. Again, unbelievably my second draw was a ticket with Heather’s name on it, and she won the $200 Bunnings Voucher. Buxton resident Renata Mc Laughlin was thrilled to win the trailer-load of firewood.
