Monday competition The final round of competition at Alexandra Squash Club for this term. Team Two versus Team Three Lachie versus Tyler: Tyler won the first two games. Then the tide started to turn. The third game was a draw 18 points each. Lachie then continued his surge, winning the final game by seven, but it wasn’t enough. Tyler took the match 68-64. Sally versus Will: An energetic and extremely close game. Will won games one and two, then Sally fought back, winning the final two games. A great effort by Sally to seize victory 58-56. Stuart versus Sam: In a fast-paced matched characterised by some incredible running, Sam shot to an early lead, but Stuart then put his foot down and took the final three games. Stuart ultimately had a strong win; 67-47. Andrew versus Jim: An exciting match with thrills, falls, strokes and some great rallies. Jim wasn’t playing to his usual high standard in the first game, allowing Andrew to take a lead that he was then able to maintain for the remainder of the match. 65-48. Team Four versus Team Five Holly versus Eric (fill-in): Great fun to watch. Holly is improving but Eric has been practicing his serve. Another strong win for Eric. 95-31. Daniel (fill-in) versus Jess: Despite the mismatch in player rankings this was an entertaining game to watch. Jess is known for her good serving and demonstrated that in this contest, however it didn’t stop Daniel cruising to a 62-36 win. Daniel versus Derrick: A high-class match with some pin-point accurate shots. After a close start, Derrick pulled away, executing some incredible boasts, especially in the third game. Daniel fought back in the final game but couldn’t breach the gap. Derrick winning 63-44. Wednesday competition Team Two versus Team Three Tyler (fill-in) versus Marty: A closer game than the final score suggests. Lots of long rallies and crafty squash shots. Tyler took the points 72-56. Liane versus Travis: Travis took control early and piled on points in the second game. Liane did well to fight back to win the third, but the Travis blitzed the final game to win convincingly 68-45. Michael and Daniel K (fill-ins) versus Daniel W (fill-in): It took two people to beat Daniel W in this fun, light-hearted match. Michael and Daniel K playing two games each, a fairly formidable challenge for Daniel W, who played all four games. He won one game but lost the match 63-51. Team Four versus Team Five Beth versus Jordan: 16 points each in the first game, then Beth edged ahead in games two and three. Beth up by seven points going into the final game but Jordan played well to make up (but not quite overcome) the difference in the final game. A thrilling 67-67-point draw. Daniel K versus Michael: Daniel was merciless in the first three games, holding Michael to scores of eight, eight and nine. A good fightback from Michael in the final game, where he got within two points. A big win to Daniel 78-38.
