MURRINDINDI Little Athletics is into its second weekend of competition and fun, with a fantastic turnout from returning members and plenty of new faces keen to give athletics a go. Each week, athletes get to compete alongside their friends while learning a wide range of athletic disciplines, from sprinting, hurdles and distance running to long jump, high jump, triple jump and throwing events such as discus, shot put and javelin. There’s plenty more to look forward to throughout the season, too, with opportunities to take part in championship events, skills clinics, workshops, and other great activities. The youngest athletes, aged five to seven, can also take part in the 'On Track program', which is designed specifically for this age group. The program focuses on participation, building confidence and developing fundamental movement skills in a fun and supportive environment. The turnout over the first two weeks has been terrific, and it has been great to see so many parents and guardians lending a hand, particularly with organising athletes during warm-up. A friendly reminder to parents and guardians that your support is needed throughout the session. Please follow your athlete around the events and help out where you can, whether that’s measuring jumps, recording times on the iPad or assisting officials. For those who have already attended two Come and Try sessions, it’s now time to register before your next visit. There are also rumours doing the rounds that a few club records have already been broken in the opening two weeks. We’ll keep you posted, so stay tuned to see whose names might be making their way into the record books. Well done to everyone who has helped make such a positive start to the season. The club look forward to seeing you all again this Saturday for another morning of athletics, friendship and fun.
