Alexandra’s 2026 season comes to an end in Preliminary Final ALEXANDRA’S Senior footballers travelled to Yarra Junction last Saturday to take on Seville in the Preliminary Final, with a coveted spot in the Grand Final on the line. Seville came out firing in the opening quarter, putting Alexandra under pressure early and kicking three goals four behinds (22) while holding the Rebels to just a single point. Alexandra responded strongly in the second quarter, finding their rhythm and kicking four goals one behind. However, Seville continued to make the most of their opportunities, adding another five goals to take a solid lead into the main break. After some words from Coach Nick Wal at half-time, the Rebels came out with renewed determination in the third quarter. Alexandra produced their best football of the match, kicking five goals two behinds to Seville’s four goals one behind and giving themselves a chance heading into the final term. The Rebels continued to fight hard in the last quarter, adding another three goals, but Seville’s determination and attack on the football proved too strong. They kicked four goals one behind to secure a 107 to 76 victory, bringing Alexandra’s 2026 finals campaign and season to an end. While it wasn’t the result the Rebels had hoped for, reaching the Preliminary Final was a great achievement and the players can be proud of their efforts throughout the season. With the football and netball season now complete, attention turns to celebrating the achievements of the players across the club at Alexandra Football Netball Club’s upcoming presentation functions. The Senior Presentation Evening will be held on Saturday, September 19 from 6.30pm, followed by the Junior Presentation Day on Sunday, September 20 from 12 noon. The Under 17 Netball and Under 18 Football teams will hold their presentation evening on Friday, October 2. The Alexandra Football Netball Club would like to sincerely thank all of their players, coaches, supporters, members, volunteers and sponsors for their incredible support and contribution throughout the 2026 season. A football and netball club simply cannot operate without the many people who give their time, energy and support each week, and the club are extremely grateful to everyone who has been part of another season with the Rebels.
