THERE has been plenty of action at Murrindindi Little Athletics over the past couple of weeks, with club records falling, young athletes learning new skills and families getting behind another great day of competition. Abi Caswell was one of the chosen athletes last week to receive the Juice Box Award for the older athletes. This award recognises an athlete who gives 100 per cent effort, supports others and makes the most of the opportunities Little Athletics has to offer. There has also been some outstanding competition in the Under 16 age group, with Levi Campbell and Chase Hilder making their mark on the club record books. Between them, the pair have been involved in three club records being broken over recent weeks, with both athletes breaking records in the 800 metres, as well as the 300 metres and 100-metre hurdles. Levi came out on top in these events, claiming the new records. He also added two more records to his tally in the shot put and high jump. Behind the competition, parents have been finding their feet running the various groups through their activities, helping the day run smoothly and efficiently. Their efforts, along with the enthusiasm of athletes and spectators cheering each other on, have helped create a fantastic atmosphere around the track. It was also great to see the younger athletes learning the techniques of race walking, developing new skills and giving something different a go. Parent assistance with the warm-up was another huge success, helping everyone get ready for a busy morning of athletics. Families are reminded that if their children have attended two come-and-try sessions, it is now time to register for the season. New athletes are always welcome to get involved and enjoy the fun, friendships and opportunities that Little Athletics provides. There will be no Little Athletics on Saturday 31 October, with the club taking its usual break around Melbourne Cup time. Families can enjoy a slightly longer weekend before returning refreshed for more athletics action.
