IT’S a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll. Blessed by a glorious track, glorious weather and a glorious crowd all the dark days of the past were forgotten and the club was really happy to rock on.

The young ones are stepping up. Apprentice Henry Jaggard rode three winners to announce his arrival as a serious contender as Alexandra’s leading rider. His first win was the FoodWorks Alexandra Open 1300, followed by ES Hadfield Contracting 1300, followed by the bet 365 1540.

On the other hand, the Trainer’s Award is a very open affair. No one trainer stood out. For over five years, Troy Kilgower headlined as Alexandra’s leading trainer but his star may be on the wane as he only managed to quinella the FoodWorks Alexandra Open.

Lee Hunter trained ‘The Oyster’ to win the first, the Whanregarwen Pastoral 1830. ‘Portobello Road’, trained by Tony Rosoline, won the Thompson Family Racing Stables 1830. Senior trainer Norm and his daughter, trainer, Jodie Thompson were there to present the trophy. Former leading rider Reece Goodwin, trained ‘Stylish Iconic’ to win the Rubicon Hotel Motel Thornton 1830.

Public transport to the races is normally non existent, so at considerable expense to the club, bus services from Eildon and Marysville were trailed. The club will also provide buses..
