Dale McKeon: The man behind the Yea Cruise Night

DALE McKeon is the mastermind behind the ever-popular Yea Cruise Night that fills the main street of Yea with classic cars once a month, bringing shiny fenders and the rumble of engines to Murrindindi Shire.

Famous around town for his toreador red 1958 Plymouth Belvedere and photography skills, this masthead sat down with Dale to talk about who he is and what he is passionate about.

“I’ve had it [a passion for classic cars] for a long time. My dad had an old car in the garage for years that was his from the 60s.

It was a 1939 Ford, which he took off the road to do stuff to, bought all these parts for it, and never got back to it. It sat in the shed for pretty much my entire childhood, not going, but it was always there,” Dale said.

“I had an aunty who had a car similar to that, which I always loved. It just stuck in my mind.”

Dale’s photography skills emerged when he took up the hobby following a major injury some years ago.

“The backstory on my photography is that I had a serious back injury about 2012-13. I had a double fusion in my lower back. I was doing metal fabrication at the time.

I’ve been in metal trades my whole life.

Basically, I had to give that up, I couldn’t work, and I was off work for years,” Dale said.

“Some of my hobbies took over, which was photography.
