COUNCIL met last Thursday to discuss what needs to be done regarding Breakaway Bridge, a historic connecting bridge between Alexandra and Acheron, that was damaged beyond usability in the October 2022 floods.
The meeting, which took place at 7pm on Thursday, April 4, discussed the available options for Breakaway Bridge moving forward, as well as the key factors that influence what can be done about the bridge.
The presenters included the mayor of Murrindindi Shire, Damien Gallagher, the director of community and development for the shire, Andrew Paxton, the manager of flood recovery, Kim Chadband, and senior planner for the council, Cameron Fraser.
The Minister for Emergency Services, Jacinda Symes, was an apology for the evening, along with MPs Cindy Mcleish and Helen Haines, councillors McAuley, Gerencser , Carpenter and Lording.
The current options for Breakaway Bridge include repairing the bridge, which would not guarantee its stability in future flood events, replacing the bridge with a modern structure, or leaving the situation as is and conducting no repairs or restructuring.
