RSL provides generous donation to Rotary and seeks new members

THE Rotary Club of Yea is one of many volunteer organisations within the broader Yea Community and the club often has speakers from local groups come and talk to Rotarians about the work their group does within our community.

At a recent Rotary Club of Yea meeting, the Yea-Kinglake RSL Secretary, Jeffrey Swain, presented a generous donation from the Sub-Branch to Rotary Club of Yea President, Penny Paxman.

“This donation is to demonstrate our appreciation in a practical way for the support provided by Rotary and the Yea High School students to our Anzac Day and Remembrance Day commemorations,” Jeff explained.

“The students from Yea High School give freely of their time and are valued participants in these annual commemorations.

We hope this donation can contribute to the Rotary Ruth Konig Scholarships which assist Yea High School students with their Tertiary studies or further education”

President Penny was surprised but incredibly delighted to receive such support for the youth of Yea and the funds provided by the RSL donation will fund one student for three years of a Ruth Konig Scholarship.

“In addition, without the active support of the Rotary Club of Yea members joining and contributing over the last three years, the RSL in Yea would have closed down,” Jeff said.

Jeff then updated the Rotarians on the current issues impacting Legacy and the RSL locally.

He explained that the Alexandra, Yea and Mansfield Legacy Group is changing structure to become a Branch of Melbourne Legacy Club.
