LAST week Greta Vallance and U3A combined to make this year’s Biggest Morning Tea a huge success. In total $733 was raised for the Cancer Council.

Greta and her trusted team of workers including Kerryn, Judy and Helen hosted a lunch/morning tea for 40 guests.

People gathered on the gorgeous verandah surrounding her home as well as in the shade of the crepe myrtle trees.

The weather was perfect. Everyone was greeted like a friend and people happily enjoyed the company of those they were seated with. Options for lunch included soup and sandwiches.

Also scones with jam and cream were kindly donated by Karla from Café Alex. Other generous personal donations included money for sandwiches and four raffle prizes, which of course added to the gift to the Cancer Council. Everything was served outside in fine style by Greta’s “dream team”.

As well as a nice lunch, Greta was also able to persuade four keen gardeners to open their gardens to the U3A community.

Three of these homes were in local Alexandra and one was just down the road in Thornton. Two of them were city gardens and the other two were larger, one being on a farm property.

The gardens were not intended to be in a competition, but rather to highlight the result of what can be achieved even after a very dry summer. The gardeners had each worked hard to showcase their own patch at its best.
