TAYLA Street, a 25 year old motorcycle racer from Flowerdale has been selected to represent Australia in July at two International events in Croatia. The events include the FIM Women’s Speedway Academy and the FIM Women’s Speedway Gold Trophy.

These events will take place at Stadium Milenium in Croatia and bring together the top female speedway riders from across the globe.

Tayla explains, “Speedway is racing on a big oval track and you can only turn left, and these bikes have no gear, or no brakes. They’re pretty cool for the way that they turn by sliding pretty much. Speedway was founded here in Australia.”

For the past 14 years, Tayla has been involved in motorcycle racing competing across Road Racing, Dirt Track, Track, Long Track, Flat Track and Speedway at top level events across the country.

The passion for riding started when Tayla started riding at age three, “I was three years old, on a QR50, a little Honda.”

This latest opportunity is Tayla’s first international venture, she has raced nationally from the countryside, going as far as Queensland, Northern New South Wales, and Victoria, representing Flowerdale and Victoria.

Tayla has had to work the hard yards to get where she is today, especially when she experienced a bit of speed bump last year.

“Well, I was racing in Gunnedah, in New South Wales, one hour from Tamworth.

It was on a hard oil track and I was riding my Honda, I had a really good Saturday. I was top of the charts and sitting in third place in a women’s class…then on the Sunday, first race of the day, literally at around 10am, I didn’t get a very good start.

I came out of the gate around fourth and I had another rider come up behind me from fifth or sixth. He just crashed off the front and took my front wheel out…..
