ON Sunday, June 23 the opening of the historical display of memorabilia of local primary schools and railway history took place at Yarck Mechanics Institute and Library, more commonly known as Yarck Hall.

The event was opened by Graham Halliburton Chairman of the Yarck Hall Committee after Norma Hodson and Geoffrey McPherson rang the restored original school bell to get everyone’s attention before the speech began.

Norma Hodson has been a CWA member for 70 years and on the Yarck Hall Committee for 50 years. Geoffrey McPherson’s great grandfather made the land available for the hall. The hall opened in 1888 and has been operating ever since.

Yarck Primary School opened in 1874 under the name Home Creek State School until 1903 when it was renamed Yarck Primary School no 1331.The school closed in 1993. Public education in the colony of Victoria only began in 1872.
