THE Crime Statistics Agency has released data detailing Victoria’s crime numbers in the year ending March 31, 2025.

Criminal incidents

For the Murrindindi local government area (LGA) there were 512 criminal incidents, down 9.9 per cent from 568 last year.

Our shire’s criminal incident rate per 100,000 population was 3262.1, well below the Victorian rate of 6692.2. Lowest in the state was Golden Plains LGA on 2377.7, with the Melbourne LGA highest on 17,792.1 per 100,000 population.

In Murrindindi, there were 60 theft-related incidents, 47 relating to criminal damage, 37 relating to breaching family violence orders (up from 23 the previous year). There were also 33 incidents relating to residential non-aggravated burglary, and 31 family violence (FV) common assault incidents.

Breaking it down further, there were two homicide and related offences in the Murrindindi Shire. Thirteen FV serious assault-related incidents were recorded, 14 non-FV serious assault, six cases of assaulting police, emergency services or other authorised officers, 31 cases of FV common assault and 17 cases of non-FV common assault.

Family violence

The total number of family incidents in Murrindindi Shire rose in the year ending March 2025, standing at 208 incidents. This is up 14.3 per cent from the previous year, when that number was 182.

This equals out to 1325.2 per 100,000 population, still below the Victorian rate of 1497.1 per 100,000 population.
