ONCE again last week at Alexandra Golf Club, despite the weather being almost perfect for golf, it was the bare minimum required for a competition that entered on Tuesday.
What a competition it was, a real turnup for the books, with your humble scribe (Dave Silverman) pulling one out of nowhere to take the win with 37 points. Dan Burns came in second with 35, and third was Greg Ebinger with 34.
The same trio also claimed the nearest the pins, with Dave Silverman on seven, Dan on 17 and Greg on 18.
Nine ladies played Stableford last Wednesday, and the weather was once again very kind to them.
Barb Doyle was the pick of the bunch with 32 points, two clear of second-placed Marg Fahey, with Sue Greatorex two further back in third.
The nine-hole winner was Bron Howell with 14 points, and nearest the pins went to Barb on two, Judy Pearson on seven and Deb Richardson on 18.
With quite a number of regulars up north, and a few more put off by the threat of rain, it was touch and go for the Saturday competition, but in the end eight players enter in the stableford round, sponsored for the week by Hedger Constructions.
As it turned out, the rain went around the club and the afternoon was fine and cool.
