Alexandra Pony Club saddles up for team penning fun

ON Saturday, August 16, Alexandra Pony Club members enjoyed a special rally at the magnificent XXXX Ranch, generously hosted by Dave and Nikki Falzon.

With the support of parents, 21 head of cattle were carefully selected to give the riders the chance to try their skills in cattle work and obstacle training.

The day began with some quiet cattle handling and a series of fun obstacles that tested both horses and riders.

Following an afternoon tea break the action moved into the highlight of the day, Team Penning.

The younger riders were led by parents to pen three head of cattle, while the older riders faced the tougher challenge of selecting and penning two or three cattle with matching paint markings.

For many, it was their very first time working with cattle, and the smiles all round reflected the riding success and enjoyment of the day.

Not to be left out, some parents also saddled up for a turn showing their competitive spirits and bringing plenty of laughter, even through an unexpected dismount, to finish the rally…
