Year 2000 to 2025 time capsule opening soon

In 1975, Alexandra Rotary laid their first capsule, when about 150 people wrote letters for a time capsule to be opened in the year 2000.

That 1975 capsule was opened in March 2000, followed by a special event organised at the Timber Tramway Museum in September 2000, where the letters were displayed and the eager crowd received their letters.

A new time capsule was soon under way, covering the next 25 years. It was buried in Rotary Park in September 2000 and will soon be dug up.

There was a wonderful response from nearly 300 families who put an envelope into that capsule. Both local or ex-local families, adults and children from across Victoria, have left messages for their families or relatives to be read in 2025.

On Sunday, October 5, which is an Alexandra Market Day at Rotary Park, Rotary will display the messages from the time capsule near the stage behind the Alexandra Information Centre, the envelopes ready for collection.

It will be exciting to receive an envelope addressed to them and to find what has been included. Did their children record what their lives would be like in 2025? What messages have they left for…
