THE Murrindindi-Woodbourne community came together to celebrate their history and community achievements at a special ceremony on Sunday, August 31 when three large signage boards were unveiled at the combined Murrindindi Hub and CFA Station.

After attending the historic sign boards presentation at Limestone-Cheviot last year, the Murrindindi-Woodbourne community decided they would mark their proud history in a similar fashion.

Tony Jacobs, Murrindindi resident for the past 30 years, was the instigator and driving force behind the project with newer resident Mike Guerin researching much of the history of this outlying district.

Apart from a small community grant from the Shire of Murrindindi, the costs were covered by members of the community.

The signage celebrates the community’s history from the First Nations people, the squatters on the original Murrindindi Station, to the early settlers, the gold miners and the timber history.

Many amazing photos of life in the early days of Murrindindi are included on the three new sign boards unveiled last Sunday before a crowd of about 60 past and present residents.

Representatives of three early settler’s families, who are still resident in the area, were given the honour of unveiling the Story Boards.
