WHEN asked to comment on the proposed amalgamation involving Alexandra District Health (ADH) and Eastern Health, Yea and District Memorial Hospital (YDMH) Board Chair Ian Marshman confirmed that the YDMH Board is awaiting further details, including the formal case for amalgamation and the community consultation framework.
Based on preliminary information, Mr Marshman acknowledged that the ADH Board has long viewed amalgamation as a pathway to strengthening both its own sustainability as well as services for its community. He noted that while the timing of the proposal, shortly after the formation of local healthcare networks and ahead of service planning involving all network members, was unexpected, it presents an opportunity for robust discussion and community input.
Mr Marshman also referenced recent board chair deliberation conversations about a potential ‘Murrindindi Health Service’ model, which would unify Alexandra and Yea health services with Darlingford Upper Goulburn Nursing Home.
This model, he said, offers a compelling vision: increased service scale, enhanced funding opportunities, and a locally anchored governance and leadership structure focused on the needs of the entire Murrindindi region.
He acknowledged that the community has previously expressed strong support for retaining local boards and CEO leadership, as evidenced by the significant public engagement in 2023. That sentiment remains central to YDMH’s approach.
