Agriculture scholarship awarded to James Meggitt

ALEXANDRA local, James Meggitt, has been awarded the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship, which provides students in the field of agriculture with an opportunity to network and funds to support their studies.

James is studying a Bachelor of Agriculture (Agricultural Economics) at the University of Melbourne, and has a keen interest in aquaculture, having grown up on a rainbow trout and cattle farm near Alexandra.

He is sponsored by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation.

“With a keen interest in aquaculture, as well as livestock and supply chain operations, I am excited about the prospects of working in these areas upon completing my degree,” James said.

Having enrolled in the Bachelor of Agriculture in 2023, James took the opportunity to apply for the scholarship in March.

He was then asked for a follow-up interview.

Talking about the interview, James said, “We discussed my degree as well as aquaculture prospects and the future of aquaculture in Australia. … This was after being shortlisted from my written application.”

The Horizon Scholarship provides recipients with funds to get out and about in the agriculture industry around Australia.
