GOULBURN Valley State Pairs finals were played last Sunday and Alexandra Bowls Club players Ian Harper and Graeme Matthews played the pair from Mooroopna and had the closest of games to lose 12 to 13. Great effort and congratulations for making the finals.
Pennant bowls can be very rewarding for some players and for others it can be frustrating. Midweek Division Four played at home and all Alexandra players had a particularly rewarding game against Euroa. Whereas Division Three who played away had a one-shot loss to Euroa who are second on the ladder. Division Five played at home against Tatura Hilltop and lost the overall but did have a winning rink.
Midweek Division Four won convincingly 69 to 44. Playing at home provided the edge and excellent bowls ensured the win. The best winning rink was Tim Langmead (Skip), Ken Argent, Craig Parkinson and Denice Chisholm. They won 12 ends and led for the entire game. The final score 23 to 11.
Bob Benghamy (Skip), Mark Stone, Pauline Gilmore and Peter Collyer also won. They won 12 ends in a row to be 17 to three up on end 13. Euroa reduced that to six to 17 by end 16. However, they made little impact over the last five ends and Alexandra had a 20 to 10 win.
A complete sweep of the three rinks was achieved with John Blamey (Skip), Bob Mayfield, Marty Manning and Christine Mayfield defeating their opposition.
They trailed five to nine on end six but were 18 to 13 up by end 13. They extended that lead to be 24 to 18 on end…
