Alexandra Secondary College discovers Japan

FIFTEEN Alexandra Secondary College students accompanied by three teachers have recently returned from a 15-day tour of Japan.

The college offers Japan Tours to students in Years nine,10 and 11 who are currently studying or have previously studied Japanese.

The tour is offered biennially, and this is the 14th tour the College has run since its first tour in 1995. While the route travelled has always been the same, Tokyo-Hiroshima- Kyoto, the sites visited on each tour are varied slightly to ensure that each group has a unique experience.

The tour is a self-guided one and is led by Jacki Tossol who has led each of the college’s 14 Japan tours. Being self-guided means students receive a more authentic experience, as they observe and model common rules of Japanese etiquette and become aware of the sights, smells and sounds of Japan just as the locals experience them.

Year 10 student, Max Gleeson who participated on the recent Japan Tour has prepared the following report.

FROM starting in busy Tokyo with the wet dreary weather, to sunshine in Hiroshima, then to Kyoto where things really slowed down, our tour through Japan was an amazing journey for us all.
