THE new Alexandra landfill is now well underway, with the new area set to service the community for the next 30 to 40 years.

The site, located at 122-124 Mount Pleasant Road in Alexandra, is a ‘gully fill’ type of landfill in a Y-shaped valley.

The current cells in the eastern valley are approaching capacity, and council has obtained Environment Protection Authority (EPA) approval to construct further cells in the western valley, which is currently undeveloped.

The works are being done by Goldsmith, with Stuart Sanham in charge on the site.

Kim Long from Bajwa Environmental Consulting is onsite all the time, monitoring and ensuring that the landfill is being built to standard.

Josh Russell is the manager of waste for Murrindindi Shire Council, and Phil Hoare is council’s project engineer.

Plans for the project commenced about five years ago, and works commenced in late 2023.
