THE Murrindindi Community Food Share had its official opening on Wednesday, May 1, at the shed located at the rear of 88a Grant Street in Alexandra.

The shed opened to the public on Thursday, May 2.

The attendees heard from Foundation Murrindindi’s executive officer Robyn Hill about the impact of the rising cost of living on the shire, and the need to take a proactive approach with a focus on the community.

The aim is to reduce the pressure on obtaining food, and Robyn noted that food insecurity can have an impact on people’s quality of life and mental health.

They have created a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space.

If people arrive at the food share, no questions will be asked about need. The only questions asked will be ‘Where are you from?’ and ‘How many people are in your hosuehold?’

The food share contains basic non-perishable items, pet food, personal hygiene products and some seasonal fruit and vegetables.

Robyn thanked the businesses and individuals who have already donated good or funds to the food share.

If people would like to make a donation, the Foundation Murrindindi bank account details are BSB 633 000, account number 158 771 196.

To donate food or other items, to become a sponsor, or to offer your services as a volunteer, contact Robyn Hill on
