Alexandra 10/180 defeated Avenel 10/128

ON a glorious Saturday afternoon the Alexandra A grade team ventured over to Leckie Park to take on Avenal in a fight to not be wooden spooners. It was also Scotty Whitehead’s last home game for Alexandra. He is finally hanging up the boots, so he says.

Avenal won the toss and elected to bowl, because they thought the green wicket would play to their advantage. Little did they know that the curator had prepared a Scott Whitehead friendly wicket. Scotty opened with Tim Polson and got Alexandra off to a fantastic start. Both players playing shots all over the ground.

Tim Polson was the first to go out with an LBW so plumb it needed to be in a SPC can. Scott continued on his merry way and ended with a wonderful 44 runs before he was unluckily bowled. Scott and young gun, Josh Crane, put on a fabulous 31 run partnership. Josh Crane went on to make a really good 20.As wickets fell, brand new dad, Justin Leary came to the crease, turning back the clock somewhat, with a swashbuckling 29. Some late cameo’s from Matt Waixel and Levi Ronalds, plus a generous serve of sundries, got Alexandra all out for 180 in the 44th over. A special mention to D Validares, who was …
