ON the morning of Friday, November 11, a hearing will take place in the Supreme Court of Victoria regarding a permanent injunction on forestry operations in East Gippsland and the Central Highlands.

The hearing can be viewed live at vimeo.com/event/2587481. No password is required.

It is not known at this stage whether the judge will hand down the final orders tomorrow, or whether further time will be taken to consider the decision.

On Friday, November 4, the Victorian Supreme Court found that VicForests failed to follow the law and protect endangered gliders when logging, and the permanent injunction relates to this.

It’s believed that VicForests have ordered a stand down of forestry workers in these regions from 10am tomorrow morning.

Contacted for comment, VicForests spokesperson said, “VicForests is taking the necessary steps to ensure that we are compliant with the final Orders that are likely to be handed down tomorrow, which will include a permanent injunction impacting operations in the East Gippsland and Central Highlands Forest Management Areas.”

A community forum, A Fair Forestry Transition, is set to be held at the Alexandra Shire Hall on Sunday, November 13 from 1pm to 4pm. RSVPs to kim.croxford@foe.org.au
