Huge increase in case numbers due to RAT tests not being recorded

A huge jump in total Murrindindi Shire case numbers occurred in yesterday’s numbers. Although there were only seven new cases, the number of active cases increased from 30 the day prior, to 101. Most concerningly, the total number of cases since the pandemic began increased by 443 cases to 997 cases.

The Victorian Department of Health have advised that the change is due to the recording of Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs). They were previously included in the statewide tally, but were not included in the local government area tallies.

RATs first became reportable on Friday, January 7.

Today’s numbers are due to be published at around lunchtime.

The Department of Health will be providing a statement on the sudden increase in case numbers in the shire. It will be added to this link when it arrives.
