TWO deserving recipients have been awarded life memberships at UGFM Inc, Ian Hewitt and Peter Weeks OAM.

Peter Rice ASFM said in his speech to congratulate Ian during the presentation that “In the late 1990’s UGFM Committee of Management became aware that Ian Hewitt was interested in becoming a presenter at the station.

“Being heavily involved in station administration, at that time I volunteered to undertake the training of Ian.

He sat in with me on the Saturday afternoon ‘Country Collection’ programme nearly a quarter of a century and he is still there.

“Over the 24 years I have found Ian to be dedicated, trustworthy and reliable.

In more recent times Ian has unfortunately had a few health issues but has battled on anyway.

And a few times he has literally left a hospital bed to be on air on UGFM.

“I want to congratulate Ian on this award. It is well earnt. Well done and Congratulations.”

There was also a few committee members and others that got together behind Peter Week’s back to rectify that he himself had not yet been awarded the same honour and on the night surprised him with life membership too.

Peter was an integral part of getting the station up and running along with Peter Rice and others.

He has held the position of President for over 20 years and his technical expertise has been paramount in getting and keeping the station functioning.
