RAIN interrupted play at the Alexandra Races on Saturday. The day opened with temperatures expected to be just right for racing.
The excellent weather attracted a large and joyful crowd ready to battle the bookies on St Crispin’s Day. However, it is spring, and, with only four races completed, the weather gods drove the runners from the field and left patrons wondering what might have been.
Our Man Sam, leader of the newly created Alexandra Punters’ Club, recruited a significant following. The $20 Punters Club was open to all, especially the untrained, naive and lazy punters who attended the races to socialise and enjoy themselves rather than battle the bookies alone. Sam did such a good job that all Punters’ Club members went home with extra coin in their pockets. Sam will return to Alexandra and the club will keep you posted about the date of the next Punter’s Club.
The racing was good. Last season’s leading picnic rider and poster boy, Shaun Cooper, rode a double, winning both race one and four. Ben Moffat and Rob Kilpatrick rode the other two winners.
The training honours were spread evenly between the old guard, Don Dwyer, Troy Kilgower and newer trainers, Tyson Barton and Ashleigh Smith.
The next meeting is the Family Friendly Country and Western Meeting on December 27. Come dressed in your best country and western gear, to win some great prizes.
There will be some enjoyable activities for the family including country and western music, pony rides, face painting, Marco the Magician and Racing Victoria merchandise for the children. Also the Kombi Photo Booth will help you create your own memories…
