THE annual event for primary school children, Kids Teaching Kids, took place in perfect weather at the Yea Wetlands on Tuesday, September 3.

Organiser Zanni Waldstein explained that each school picks a different topic to focus on and that follows their own interests or priorities, or what is relevant in their area, and they work on that.

They pick their topic at the end of term one and work on it throughout term two to research, become experts and then start developing a presentation and a book contribution throughout the end of term two and into term three, and then that’s what they brought in to the conference.

Many different topics were covered. Our Lady of the Way in Wallan took part for the first time. They did a Connecting to Country presentation. Zanni said, “They did beautifully and really deeply engaged with it, which was great. Another highlight was Middle Kinglake Primary School. They did the fungi one and they did the play at the start of the day well.

It was hilarious and fabulous and really well done… Yea Primary did some stuff on food miles, which was great. That’s a topic that nobody’s really tackled yet to date. And there were there were lots of other great ones, like the kids from Avenel Primary did an incredible TV segment in their presentation with a game show and quiz show about their renewable energy and electricity topic.
