THE entirety of Australia’s 3G network is set to shut down in the near future and could bring challenges for anyone relying on the old network.

TPG Telcom has already closed its 3G services, as of December 15, 2023. Telstra will be closing its 3G services on June 30 this year, and Optus sometime in September.

Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) will also be affected by the 3G closure, including Boost, Dodo, Aldi, etcetera.
Devices that cannot connect to the 4G or 5G network, or that do not have Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE), will be unable to make calls, including to triple zero.
