A LOWER yarding for July’s Elders and Nutrien Store Sale at the Yea Saleyards, with around 1600 cattle sold on the day.

This is perhaps due to renewed optimism caused by recent downfalls, or that farmers have already sold off most of their stock. Either way, prices rewarded those who were selling.

The average price per head for the day was $1108 with the average weight sitting at 279.55 kilograms, calculating out to some 393 cents per kilogram (c/kg).

First row was cows and calves, followed by the usual rows of steers and the back rows occupied by heifers. A mixture of breeds were being sold, with Black Angus the most popular as usual, with some Red Angus, Charolais and Herefords mixed in.

Top price per head for steers was $2600 with a top weight of 667.7 kilograms, calculating to a sale price of 389c/kg. For heifers the top price was $1940 and a top weight of 495 kilograms, equalling out to…
