THE following planned burns are expected to be undertaken in Murrindindi Shire today, so there is likely to be smoke in some areas.

There will be a patrol of a 1099 hectare fuel reduction burn at Big River State Forest – Frenchmans Spur, 26km east of Marysville.

There will be an ignition of a 1273 hectare fuel reduction burn at Eildon on Wombat Track, 10km south east of Eildon. The day one ignition will be 273 hectares.

There will be an ignition of a 1029 hectare Fuel Reduction Burn at Eildon National Park on Taylors Creek Track, 8km south east of Eildon. The day one ignition will be 600 hectares.

There are also planned burns close to the shire, including patrols of fires 12km north of Bonnie Doon, and 2.3km north east of Jamieson.

If you are experiencing any symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, the Department of Health advises that you seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024. Close windows and doors to prevent smoke from entering.

Road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility associated with smoke. Signs may be in place to slow traffic. Obey all traffic signs and instructions from fire agency crews near the burn. For travel times and roadworks check traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au

Be aware of planned burns happening in your local area and stay clear of areas where burns are taking place or areas that have recently been burned. Access to walking tracks, car parks, camping grounds and picnic sites in areas close to or in burn areas may be restricted.
