Rebels retain the Hedger/Ivey Cup

LAST Saturday, the teams travelled to Yea to take on the Tigers on their home turf, with both clubs competing for the prestigious Hedger/Ivey Cup.

Each year, this special event sees Alexandra and Yea battle it out for the honour of taking home the cup, named in tribute to two club legends: Alexandra’s Kevin Hedger and Yea’s Richard Ivey. Both men were true stalwarts of their respective clubs, and it remains a great honour to continue this meaningful tradition in their memory.

With a clean sweep in both football and netball at Yea, the Rebels once again claimed bragging rights, proudly retaining the Hedger/Ivey Cup for another year.

Reserves

Alexandra 12.7-79 defeated Yea 5.5-35

THE Reserves headed to Yea last Saturday determined to bring home a win, knowing victory would strengthen their position on the ladder and give them a shot at a double chance heading into finals.

With the match starting later in the day, both sides came out evenly matched in the opening term. At quarter time, the Rebels held a slender lead of just one goal.

The momentum began to shift in the second quarter, with the Rebels lifting their intensity and beginning….

Seniors

Alexandra 9.2-56 defeated Yea 7.12-54

THE Seniors took to the field at 4pm for a twilight clash against Yea, with both teams hungry for a win. For the Rebels, the stakes were high. Securing the four points was crucial to locking in a final’s berth.

Alexandra started strongly, asserting early control with four goals to Yea’s one, giving them a 17-point lead at quarter time.

The Tigers responded in the second quarter, lifting their work rate and matching the Rebels across the ground. They kicked three goals five to Alexandra’s three goals one, trimming the margin to just 13 points at the main break.

Both sides came out with renewed energy after half-time, but strong defensive efforts kept scoring….
