PERFECT conditions for golf are a sunny day with very little wind, no rain, comfortably warm but not too hot to attract flies and stunning surroundings to admire. Last Thursday the nine-hole golfers experienced these perfect conditions as they played stableford on the back nine holes at Marysville Golf Club.

The winner was Ian Harris (14) with 20 points followed by Amanda Rattay (13) with 19 points. The shots of the day were played by Ray Jones when he birdied the challenging par four 13th hole and also had a nearest the pin on the 11th and 18th holes.

Also, last Thursday four ladies played in the Alexandra ladies’ tournament and with an earlier start than the nine-holers the greens were initially covered in frost but were soon back to normal when the sun appeared and ideal conditions eventuated.

Thirty ladies from Alexandra and visiting clubs played stroke and had an enjoyable day. Home ground advantage came into play with a number of the Alexandra ladies on the winner’s list. There were no successes for the Marysville ladies on the golf course but yet again Heather Jenkins won a raffle prize.

The final Dalhousie ladies’ event before the winter break is at Avenel which is the only course in Dalhousie with sand greens which for players adds an extra challenge and interest. Three Marysville ladies will travel to Avenel.

In contrast to the perfect weather on Thursday the conditions on Saturday were about as uncomfortable as they can be. A very cold wind, rain, hail but no shine presented a number of challenges and the necessity to jump puddles added to the golfers’ experience.

Most golfers chose to stay at home but seven golfers including one lady stoically played 18 holes of stroke. The winner of the June monthly medal was Keith Atwell (16) with nett 74 followed by Adam Littlejohn (20) with….
