DESPITE extra heavy recent rain, the stewards declared a good track for last Wednesday’s stableford event at Yea Golf Club.
The colts and geldings event attracted 16 entries, including some that have recent good form. Mick Spagnolo (6) took out the event in a photo finish from Phil Armstrong (22), when they both finished with the excellent score of 39 points.
Martin Lowe (19) who has had recent success on good tracks showed his versatility to take out third place with 35 points.
A fast finish from John Phillips (18) saw him just get pipped and take home fourth place on count back. John responded with a quinella, taking home the nearest the pin on the second hole.
The steward’s report noted that several starters weren’t suited by the heavier going, and that Russell Haack was swabbed post event and awarded the Club Award.
In the mares and fillies event, 13 starters went to the barriers. Proven stayer Miranda Gill (17) showed….
