Triangle recruits graduate as bushfire firefighters

CONGRATULATIONS to the newest bushfire firefighters who successfully completed their General Firefighter training course last Sunday.

Five new firefighters for three of the Triangle brigades were assessed by two very experienced volunteer instructors, with the assistance of members of Marysville and Buxton Fire Brigades, over nearly eight hours of practical activities in the field.

Over five consecutive Thursday evenings and Sundays, the five recruits have completed a nationally recognised training program involving both face to face theory sessions and practical training drills. Following completion of a set of online theory assessments, interlaced with a set regime of practical drills covering both wet and dry firefighting skills, the recruits then completed a consolidation training day ahead of their Practical Assessment day.

Last Sunday’s assessments brought together all the theory and practical training into a series of scenario based assessment activities, which required the participants to not only demonstrate their skills but to do so in a team environment.

The training team would like to thank all the brigades and members who assisted, in any way, to the successful delivery of the course: Alexandra Fire Brigade, Buxton Fire Brigade, Eildon Fire Brigade, Marysville Fire Brigade, Taggerty Fire Brigade, and Thornton Fire Brigade.
