THE 2024-25 Victorian Picnic Racing Awards were held on Saturday, May 10 at Cranbourne Racing Club, where the season’s leading participants and horses were recognised.
After a successful picnic racing season, Yea Racing Committee members and volunteers from the Yea and St Pat’s Racing Club (Yea Racing) joined those from the 12 clubs who make up the Picnic Racing circuit of Victoria to celebrate a great season.
Country Racing Victoria’s Picnic Racing Manager Adam Olszanski advised that over 44,000 patrons attended the 32 picnic meetings across the season which started at Yea on Caulfield Cup Day.
Yea Racing held four very successful race meetings over the season, under the oversight of new club president Alister Tait, supported by vice president Denis Smith (former president of 16 years), and a hard working committee and group of volunteers and community groups.
On presenting ‘The David and Gavan Bourke Picnic Club of the Year Award’ Adam Olszanski stated, “This club enjoyed consistently healthy crowds across all their meetings and, after overcoming track issues last season, delivered a reliable racing surface that would be the envy of many professional clubs.
“Their cup meeting drew their largest crowd in five years and scored highly across key areas including marketing, entertainment, and compliance. They also took a calculated risk by trialling a new date for their first meeting, and it paid off.
“I am pleased to congratulate the 2024-25 Picnic Club of the Year, the Yea and St Pat’s Racing Club.”
