Yea Wetlands Discover Experience officially opened

THE Yea Wetlands Discover Experience Project was officially opened last Friday after over three years of work from the team at the Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre.

The experience includes a new walking trail, the Kayigai Trail, boardwalks and viewing platforms in the wetlands, an Indigenous sculpture trail, and four new displays in the Interpretive Wing of the centre.

The project received funding from the Victorian Government in 2022, and the rest of the budget (around 25 per cent) was comprised of donations from the Yea and district community.

Aunty Angela Ten Buuren of the Taungurung people conducted a smoking ceremony to cleanse those present, and a Welcome to Country. She acknowledged all of the hard work to bring the project to fruition.

David Anderson emceed the event, listing the apologies of those who could not attend, including Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Environment.

Chairman of the Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre, Don Knight, spoke about the people involved and the enormous amount of effort that went into creating the project over three years.
